"Missale Festivum"

original handwritten parchments over 370 years old,
from an unknown Spanish monastery

Size: varies, but approx. 15.5 x 22.5 inches

These are original 370+-year-old parchment pages from a hymnal used in a Catholic church in Spain. It was written by "Frater Nicolaus Parets" who finished the work on May 31, 1649.

Parchment has a light whiter side, which was the inside of the animal skin. The outside is yellower and darker. Because parchment was expensive, hymnals were made large enough so one copy could be seen by a large group of people.

These parchments are more than 350 years old, so naturally they do show some signs of wear and age — part of their great charm. The hymns are written on both sides of the parchment. We show both sides of the parchment in the thumbnails below. Many people tell us they have "framed" these in a double sided frame so that both sides may be enjoyed. Although we have numbered them for our own reference, they are shown in no particular order in regards to the original hymnal's sequence.
