Note: Unlike earlier in 1850 edition (with title "Oregon, Upper California & New Mexico"), this divides the area into California, Oregon, Utah Territory, and New Mexico (all shown in full color) for the first time. "Gold Region" is shown but not specially colored as in early-1850 ed. Relief shown by hachures and spot heights. Shows Indian tribes. Prime meridians: Greenwich and Washington.

Title Page condition: Fair: overall soiling/grubbiness; rumpling, wear, edge wear, numerous paper chips in top margin outside of image area.
Both the index map and the title page would benefit greatly from a cleaning and restoration by a qualified paper conservator. As they are, they would still make great decorative pieces though they show their nearly 100-year-age.
